What Shadows of Liberty Is About
The documentary describes what the concentration of American media in the hands of a few large companies does to reporting. The journalists who speak in the film give examples of stories they worked on that were never published, of subjects touching the owners’ interests being quietly dropped, and of people losing their jobs for questioning it; Nike’s subcontracted factories, arms trafficking and war coverage are among them. The film’s view is openly critical and one-sided; the answers of the institutions it names are not part of the account. Julian Assange and David Simon also speak in Jean-Philippe Tremblay’s ninety three minute British documentary; it was completed in 2012.
