The 1850s. After his father is badly injured, Haakon has to keep his Norwegian family afloat and signs on as a cabin boy aboard an English ship. At sea he works out that some of the crew are pirates, the mutiny that follows sinks the vessel, and the boy ends up on a deserted island. Nils Gaup adapted Oluf Falck-Ytter's book Haakon Haakonsen: A Norwegian Robinson, whose title tells you in advance where the story is going. Although it is a Scandinavian production, the English language version was released in America by Walt Disney.
