Sirai

A police officer is to take a young convict from the prison in Vellore to the court at Sivagangai. The road is long. In the vehicle there are the two of them and a few officers. At first nobody speaks. Then the boy starts talking and the officer listens. What he says is not what is in the file. As the road goes on the papers in the officer's hand become useless, and by the time they reach the court he has to decide for himself what to do. Suresh Rajakumari directs; it is his first film. He co-wrote the screenplay from a story by Tamizh. Vikram Prabhu, L. K. Akshay Kumar and Anishma Anilkumar are in the cast. The music is by Justin Prabhakaran. It is an Indian production in Tamil. The film opened on 25 December 2025, runs a hundred and twenty four minutes and was well received by critics. The narrative happens almost entirely on the road and inside the vehicle. The matter it treats is the story before the verdict; the film asks not what the crime was but how it was arrived at. Akshay Kumar took a leading role for the first time with this film. The narrative moves in flashbacks and each one changes the one before. The film criticises the justice system directly without making anybody give a speech. The relation between the two actors carries all of the tension. The ending reaches no definite verdict. Its limit is scale; the narrative is narrow, little happens, and it rests on a single idea. Who it is for: viewers who like road films and two hander drama. Who it is not for: it is narrow, slow, and the ending bitter.
