SIX: The Musical Live!

Liz Clare's 2025 recording captures the musical live in London. The six wives of Henry the Eighth hold a singing competition on stage, trying to measure who was treated worst, and finally decide to tell their own stories themselves. The musical's idea is whose voice historical narrative is built in. The six women have been cited for centuries as footnotes to their husband's biography; the show inverts that by putting it in the form of a pop concert. The stage design is a concert stage with the live band visible; the running time is under ninety minutes with no interval. Clare's direction follows the standards of theatre capture, with the camera giving closeness an audience could not see. Who it's for: those who like musical theatre and pop forms. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a serious historical account; the show uses history in a deliberately anachronistic way.
