What Sixty Six Is About

London, 1966. Bernie is twelve, shy, bespectacled, and noticed by nobody. The biggest day of his life is coming: his bar mitzvah. He has been planning it for months, drawing up guest lists, rehearsing. But the date falls on the World Cup final, and England have reached the final. The entire country will be in front of a television that day, and an empty hall is entirely possible. Paul Weiland's film draws heavily on his own childhood, with Eddie Marsan as Bernie's father and Helena Bonham Carter as his mother. It puts one boy's small catastrophe and a country's greatest day on the same date and takes both of them seriously.
