What Skinhead Attitude Is About
Daniel Schweizer’s documentary works back through forty years of skinhead subculture, beginning with what it looks like now. It covers both the American and the British versions, from people who care mainly about the clothes to the hard neo-Nazi wing, and it makes clear that the politics of the culture have run from the far left to the far right. What SHARP, Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice, has done over the years is one of its subjects. Laurel Aitken, Jimmy Pursey and Ian Stuart all appear in the footage. Buster Bloodvessel and Gavin Watson appear as well. The film neither celebrates the subculture nor reduces it to one thing; it watches how a movement that came out of the same clothes and the same records split into wings that hated each other. A Switzerland, France and Germany co-production, it came out in August 2003 and runs ninety minutes.
