Slap-Jack

The story is set in 1989, in the outskirts of Budapest. One of the neighbours runs a training base for a workers’ guard beneath his house. Meanwhile the young people of the same neighbourhood get into trouble over a letter delivered to the wrong address. The two lines wind into each other. The film tells this as comedy, but history stands behind it: that year the order in the country changes. The account does not talk about politics directly; it shows it through relations between neighbours. The eighty minutes are compressed into a short span. Pap Vera, Sándor Gáspár and Károly Eperjes appear in Péter Tímár’s Hungarian film, completed in 1992.
