What Slavoj Zizek: The Reality of the Virtual Is About
The film is a single lecture recorded from beginning to end: Slavoj Žižek talks about belief and takes the subject across a wide field, from Father Christmas to democracy. Using Lacanian categories he separates out the forms belief takes, rejects outright the era declared post-political, and puts forward the paradox of universal truth as a reason to dare to do the impossible. Leaping quickly from topic to topic while never letting go of the larger argument, the talk is a typical instance of Žižek’s own kind of performance. The seventy one minute production directed by Ben Wright was completed in 2004 and delivers the thinker’s ideas without an intermediary.
