Smoke on the Potato Fields

A middle aged doctor arrives in a small town. His marriage has come apart. He sets up a practice there. The town is small and turned in on itself. Little by little he is drawn into the lives of his patients. One is a couple with no children. Another is a pregnant young woman with a severe mother. Another is the son of a man who farms ducks. Each of those relations says something about the doctor as well. From outside the place looks peaceful. From inside it is another matter. The film is adapted from a novel. Rudolf Hrušínský and Věra Galatíková appear in the ninety four minute film, a Czechoslovak production František Vláčil finished in 1977.
