What Snow White Is About
The film retells the tale of Snow White. But the telling is turned upside down. Snow White is weary of life. She is neither very pretty nor sweet. The dwarfs beside her are not hospitable either. Her stepmother is given to drink. The prince is rather too fond of women. Every known element of the tale is undone this way. The account is put together as a satire. The film was made with animation. Its humour is not coarse but cool. Judit Halász and János Körmendi are among the voices, with Ilona Béres and Nóra Tábori as well, in József Nepp’s Hungarian film of 1984, which runs ninety minutes.
