What Soft Hands Is About
There has been a revolution in Egypt. A prince of the former royal family is left stranded. He has a title and no function. He does not know what to do in the new society. There is no work he knows how to do. Around then he meets a young academic. The man has just finished his doctoral thesis. The subject of it is the use of one Arabic preposition. He is of no use to anyone either. The two men are in a similar dead end. Together they start looking for a place for themselves. The story does this by making you laugh. Behind it, though, is a plain lesson. The film is adapted from the play by Tawfiq al-Hakim. Ahmed Mazhar and Sabah appear in the hundred and thirty seven minute film, an Egyptian production Mahmoud Zulfiqar finished in 1963.
