Someone I Loved

Chloé's husband has left her, and she is stranded with two children. Her father-in-law Pierre takes her out to the house in the country. One night Pierre decides to tell her something he has told nobody for twenty years. Years ago he was in love with a woman named Mathilde. He thought about leaving his wife and children, then did not; he took the safer option. He has not spoken about it since. Chloé hears this story in the middle of her own abandonment, and the two of them are standing on opposite sides of the same thing.
