What Something Ventured Is About

The documentary tells how venture capital came into being before the term itself existed. A handful of people put money into ideas nobody else would back, and those companies became names everyone knows today: Apple, Intel, Genentech, Atari, Cisco, Tandem. The investors and the founders talk to each other in the film. Dan Geller and Dayna Goldfine directed it together. The telling does not line up a row of success stories; it makes room for the offers that were turned down, the miscalculations, and the part luck played. Names like Arthur Rock, Tom Perkins and Don Valentine tell it in their own words. There is plenty of archive footage. The subject is not money but the decision to trust someone or not.
