What Soof Is About
Soof is approaching forty and has everything she once wanted: three children, a small catering business, a decent husband and a nice house. Then she starts asking herself whether this is all there is. Antoinette Beumer's Dutch film treats midlife restlessness not as a catastrophe but as an everyday itch, and declines to pass judgement on its heroine. It uses the familiar shapes of the genre without making Soof either reckless or a victim; it simply leaves her bored. Lies Visschedijk plays her.
