What Special Flight Is About
In a detention centre near Geneva live twenty five people waiting to be deported. Some face being sent to countries they have not set foot in for as long as twenty years; behind them stay their children, their partners and their work. They are first offered the chance to say goodbye to their families and return on a scheduled flight; if they refuse, a separate flight is arranged quickly and without warning. The documentary records that waiting from inside; the camera stands with those held and with the officials alike. The practices and conditions the film describes are given together with testimony and with what was recorded. Fernand Melgar’s hundred and three minute Swiss documentary was completed in 2011.
