Stations of the Elevated

The documentary takes up a street art. The art is on the sides of subway and train cars. The camera follows those surfaces through the city. The place is New York. The time is the end of the seventies. The film draws the cityscape of that period. The trains move together with the pictures on them. There is no narrator and the account runs through image. The film was shot on sixteen millimetre colour stock. The soundtrack carries the noise of the city itself. Jazz and gospel are added to it. Music by Charles Mingus and Aretha Franklin is used. The camera sets advertising hoardings beside the trains. Painted cars and product advertisements come to stand side by side. The work was put together as a short documentary. Manfred Kirchheimer’s American documentary of 1981 runs forty five minutes.
