Superman

James Gunn skips the origin with an opening crawl of threes: metahumans three centuries ago, Superman’s debut three years ago, his first lost fight three minutes ago. Krypto helps him flee to the Fortress of Solitude, scenes shot in Svalbard’s Adventdalen valley, which Gunn said felt like the middle of the Arctic. Krypto comes from Ozu, a rescued dog Gunn adopted while writing, who wrecked the house and ate his laptop; Gunn wrote that wondering how hard life would be if Ozu had superpowers changed the shape of the story. The screen Krypto is computer generated, modelled on camera scans of Ozu. Gunn says the twelve minute Lois and Clark interview, ten percent of the film, was shot in two days; it becomes a real argument as Lois presses him on the legality and ethics of stopping Boravia’s invasion. It is the first feature film of DC Studios’ new universe, whose first release was the animated Creature Commandos on Max in December 2024. Box Office Mojo and The Numbers show 618.7 million dollars worldwide as of September 2026. A good fit if you want a long lovers’ argument given room and a disobedient dog steering the plot more than once. Not for anyone after Superman alone; Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific and Metamorpho share the screen.
