Suzi Q

Suzi Quatro grew up in Detroit and started playing in a band she formed with her sisters. At the start of the seventies she went to England, and with her leather suit, her bass and the way she stood on stage she became one of the people who changed where women sat in rock music. The records she put out in 1973 made her a large success in Europe, though for a long time she did not get the same response in the country she was born in. Liam Firmager's documentary combines what Quatro says herself with archive footage, and does not skip the tension between her and her family. Joan Jett, Cherie Currie, Debbie Harry, Tina Weymouth and Alice Cooper are among those who speak, and each of them says what they took from her. What the film keeps returning to is why it took so long for Quatro's influence to be acknowledged.
