Tale of a Forest

The documentary shows the untouched forests of northern Finland, among the last old growth forests left in Europe. There is no person in the leading part; the dwellers of the forest are: bears, elk, snakes, owls, ants, frogs and flying squirrels. The birds that old folk accounts held to carry souls are inside the account too. The film moves by following the seasons and shows the forest not as a landscape but as a community with rules of its own. The camera gives the animals no names and invents no stories for them, while sound and music are used as what carries the account. The film is built so that it can be watched together with children. The seventy five minute Finnish documentary by Kim Saarniluoto and Ville Suhonen was completed in 2012.
