Max Washington has just come out of prison, where he served time for burglary. He goes back to the club where he used to dance. What is there is the place he grew up, the older generation of dancers and tap; and his former girlfriend Amy, who is not especially pleased to see him. Amy's father Little Mo plans a show for Max. At the same time his old partners in crime want him back in. Nick Castle's film was made at a time when tap had almost been forgotten in America, and it put the old masters of the form in the cast. Gregory Hines plays Max, and Sammy Davis Jr. appears in one of his last films as the elder of the club. Savion Glover is here while still a boy. The story stays thin, but the dance scenes hold the film up.
