What Taste of Cement Is About
The documentary is set on a building site in Beirut. Syrian workers are putting up a tower. In those same days the war goes on in their own country. Their houses are being shelled. The war in Lebanon ended years ago. The workers cannot leave the site. They are forbidden to go out after seven in the evening. The curfew is a rule imposed on refugees. At night they stay in the lower floors of the building. Their link with the outside is a single opening. In the morning they climb out of it and start work. At night they gather around a small television. They watch the news coming from Syria. The documentary shows that closed life in a quiet register. Ziad Kalthoum directed the eighty five minute documentary. It is a German, Lebanese, Syrian, Emirati and Qatari production finished in 2017.
