Television

In a Bangladeshi village, Amin is the man whose word carries. He holds that every device which shows images is forbidden by his faith: television, mobile phones, photographs, computers. His son Solaiman wants a phone, ostensibly for business but really to talk to the girl he loves. When his father refuses, the father's right-hand man steps in and sets about persuading him on his own terms. Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's Bangladeshi film does not make a joke of faith, and does not make a villain of Amin either. The subject is how a prohibition collapses from the inside. The film closed the Busan Film Festival, took the grand jury prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and was submitted as Bangladesh's Oscar entry.
