What Tenchi Forever! Is About
One day Tenchi disappears into the forest near his house. Six months later Ayeka and Ryoko find him living in a city with a woman they do not know, and he appears to have aged several years. Every time they get close he vanishes, because he is inside a fabricated other dimension in which he knows nothing of his own past. Hiroshi Negishi’s animated feature is therefore less a rescue story than a question about whether someone has chosen to walk out of his own life. It is tied directly to the previous feature in the series, which the in LOVE2 in its title says outright. The film runs ninety-five minutes and dates from 1999.
