What Tenchi Muyo! In Love Is About
The space criminal Kain escapes from prison and destroys the headquarters of the Galaxy Police. He then travels back in time to 1970, meaning to remove Tenchi's mother before Tenchi is ever born. If the plan works, Tenchi will never have existed. Tenchi and those around him have to go into the past to stop him. Hiroshi Negishi's anime is the first feature film of the long-running Tenchi Muyo series. It is a bigger and more serious piece of work than the television episodes; comedy gives way to feeling. The real subject is Tenchi coming to know his mother. The telling uses the time travel as a pretext; the matter at hand is a child seeing a person he never knew.
