What Tenchi the Movie 2: The Daughter of Darkness Is About
One day a girl called Mayuka turns up and says she is Tenchi’s daughter. Once the first shock passes, everyone in the Masaki house gets used to her, but things tangle when Washu starts looking into where she came from. What emerges is the plan of a demon who wants to settle an old account with the house of Jurai; Mayuka is a being she created, and genetically she really is Tenchi’s daughter. This is the second of three films set in the Tenchi Muyo universe. Tetsu Kimura directed from a script by Naoko Hasegawa, AIC produced, and it opened in Japan in August 1997. In sixty minutes it goes somewhere much darker without giving up the comedy of the series; what it is really about is fatherhood and being accepted.
