After his parents are killed, Mahesh ends up in prison and is separated from Mohini, who is trapped in the hands of a cruel father. When he gets out he comes back both to get her away and to settle what is owed. N. Chandra’s film was the highest-grossing Indian release of 1988 and stayed in cinemas for more than fifty weeks. For Madhuri Dixit it was the turning point: the song Ek Do Teen made her a star overnight. Laxmikant and Pyarelal wrote the music, and Anil Kapoor, coming off Mr. India, had his standing confirmed by it.
