What That Guy... Who Was in That Thing Is About
Sixteen actors sit in front of a camera and tell versions of the same story: they have been working for years, everyone finds their faces familiar, and nobody knows their names. Cop, lawyer, boss, best friend, psychopath, politician; they have played whatever was needed. They talk openly about not being treated as first class on set, about being cast and then dropped, about the work thinning out after forty. Ian Roumain and Michael Schwartz, who directed it together, are looking at the broad middle of Hollywood that falls outside the star stories. Nobody is asking for sympathy; what is being described is a trade and the economics of that trade. Željko Ivanek, Xander Berkeley, Bruce Davison and Paul Guilfoyle are among those talking. In seventy-nine minutes it produces an unusually honest picture of how the business actually runs.
