What That Summer Is About

In the summer of 1972 Lee Radziwill and Peter Beard set out to make a film about Radziwill’s childhood, and the work took them to the decaying estate where their relatives Edith and her daughter Edie were living. It was this pair who first brought the Maysles brothers to that house. The reels they shot then sat on a shelf for forty five years. This documentary brings that lost footage back out and joins it to Beard’s recollections. What emerges is the portrait of a circle living by rules of its own under the pressure of class expectation and prejudice. Goran Olsson’s eighty minute documentary was completed in 2017.
