The Animal People

The documentary is about an animal rights campaign. It was called Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty. It went by SHAC for short. The target was a company called Huntingdon Life Sciences. The company carried out tests on animals. The campaign began in the late nineties. It spread across Britain and the United States. Its methods included publishing information. Demonstrations were held. There was damage to property at times. Then came the legal side. Six young activists were charged with terrorism, the first time that charge had been brought in such a case, on the basis of a newly passed law. Denis Hennelly and Casey Suchan made the ninety seven minute documentary, an American production finished in 2019.
