The Beauty Inside

Woo-jin wakes in a different body every morning. Age, gender and nationality all change, and the only constant is his own consciousness. He works as a furniture designer because he can do it at home without meeting anybody. Then he falls for Yi-soo, who works in a shop, and finds a way to explain himself to her. The interesting move is inverting the question. The problem is not that he changes but that she has to conduct a relationship with a stranger every morning and be seen doing it. Han Hyo-joo carries that, while a long line of different actors take turns as Woo-jin. The source is the American social media project The Beauty Inside from 2012. Baik directed. Its flaw is that the logic of the premise is never pressed, the second half slides into melodrama, and the ending postpones the problem rather than solving it. Who it is for: fans of Korean romantic fantasy. Who it is not for: viewers who want the rules to hold.
