What The Best Is Yet to Come Is About
Arthur and César have been friends since childhood and are exact opposites: one orderly and withdrawn, the other scattered and unrestrained. Because César has no health insurance he has tests done on Arthur's card, and the confusion follows: Arthur reads the results and learns his friend has months left, while César believes it is Arthur who is ill. Each convinced the other is dying, they drop everything and set out. Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière build the film on that misunderstanding and, where the shape could easily curdle into pathos, keep hold of the comedy. The rhythm between Fabrice Luchini and Patrick Bruel is the whole strength of it. Who it is for: viewers who like French comedy dramas about friendship. Who it is not for: anyone who will find the misunderstanding contrived, since the film leans on it entirely.
