The Bibi Files

Alexis Bloom's 2024 documentary rests on recordings of the Israeli police interrogations of Benjamin Netanyahu, his wife Sara and his son Yair, conducted between 2016 and 2018. The footage was leaked in early 2023 and had not been public before. Those recordings are the film's principal material. It lays out the content of the bribery and fraud investigations: gifts, relationships with media owners and the arrangements alleged to have been made in return. The documentary speaks openly from a critical position, and voices from the prosecution and the opposition dominate. Netanyahu sought to block the film through the Israeli courts, and it cannot legally be distributed in Israel under privacy law. Alex Gibney is among the producers. It screened as a work in progress in Toronto and had its world premiere at Doc NYC. Who it's for: those following Israeli politics and the corruption cases. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a two-sided account; the documentary argues one case and leaves the defence thin.
