The Blessed

Algiers, a few years after the end of the civil war. Amal and Samir have decided to mark their twentieth wedding anniversary at a restaurant. On the way they talk about the country: Amal about lost illusions, Samir about the need to learn to live with them. At the same hours their son Fahim and his friends Feriel and Reda are wandering the city. Algiers is a hard enough place to take their youth from them. The film sets two generations side by side inside a single night. Who carries what after a war is the real subject. Sami Bouajila, Nadia Kaci and Lyna Khoudri appear in Sofia Djama’s hundred and two minute film, a joint Algerian, Belgian, French and Qatari production, completed in 2017.
