The Boys

In 1999 a robbery and a killing take place at a small supermarket in Samnye, in Jeonbuk province. The police quickly turn to three boys from the neighbourhood. Overnight the boys are declared murderers and go to prison without understanding what is happening. The following year the veteran detective Hwang Joon-cheol is put in charge of the crime investigation division. A tip reaches him about the real culprits and he reopens the case. But Choi Woo-sung, the detective who had handled it, gets in the way and the whole thing falls apart; Hwang is demoted. Sixteen years later the victim’s daughter and sole witness, Yoon Mi-sook, comes back to Hwang together with the boys. The film is based on a real case. Sul Kyung-gu takes the lead in Chung Ji-young’s Korean film of 2023.
