What White Badge Is About
A veteran back from Vietnam begins writing about what he went through in the war for a newspaper. As the pieces appear, another veteran who served in the same unit starts turning up in his life and forces him to face his past. The story moves back and forth between the Korea of 1979 and Vietnam; it is about what came after what people were made to do rather than about the war itself. What Korean soldiers did in that war, and the relation the country had with America, are among the things the film asks about openly. Ahn Sung-ki appears in the hundred and twenty two minute Korean film adapted from the novel by Ahn Junghyo; Chung Ji-young’s production was completed in 1992.
