The Brave Blacksmith

The young blacksmith Mikes sets out in search of adventure, taking with him Matej, the miller’s assistant, and the boy Ondra. Their aim is to rescue three enchanted princesses. Along the way they meet a mischievous old woman, magic and traps laid by the Black King. But the real test does not come from outside: each of the three has his own ambitions, his own fears and his own wish to take the easy road. The film uses the form of a fairy tale and places its moral inside the plot rather than preaching it. It was adapted from a children’s book. Pavel Kriz plays the lead in Petr Sveda’s seventy nine minute Czechoslovak film, completed in 1984.
