A violinist is expecting his sixth child by Marisa, his second mistress. As the birth comes closer he grows so anxious that he will not leave the clinic; the one moment he does is to drive his wife Giulia and their children to the station for a holiday by the sea. He is a man with more than one household, more than one set of children, and a separate face for all of them. The film neither celebrates the arrangement nor punishes it; it shows how exhausting a business keeping it up actually is. Ugo Tognazzi and Stefania Sandrelli appear in Pietro Germi’s ninety seven minute Italian film, completed in 1967.
