The Conscientious Objector

The documentary takes up Desmond T. Doss. Doss was a medic in the Second World War. In 1945 he served at Okinawa. There was a steep cliff there. Its height was some four hundred feet. The soldiers called it Hacksaw Ridge. The fighting there was very heavy. Doss refused to carry a weapon because of his faith. For a time that stand made him a target of mockery. But during the fighting he went up the cliff under heavy fire. He brought seventy five wounded men down. The soldiers who had mocked him owed him their lives. He was recommended in the end for the Medal of Honor. Terry Benedict’s American documentary of 2004 runs a hundred and one minutes.
