What The Damned: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead Is About
The documentary is about a punk band that went a long time without the place it deserved: the first British punks to put out a record and the first to cross the Atlantic. The film was shot over three years in different parts of the world and follows the band’s tangled history, its break ups and the fighting among its members. While the thirty fifth anniversary is being marked, former members who had left are out on a tour of their own; that is, two separate stories are running inside the same year. Other musicians of the period speak in the account as well. The account does not present the band as a legend; it shows side by side what fell apart over the years and what stayed standing. Wes Orshoski’s hundred and seven minute American documentary was completed in 2015.
