What The Dawn Patrol Is About

1915, France. Major Brand commands the 39th squadron. Every morning he sends boys up in shot-through aircraft, and most evenings most of them do not come back. Headquarters sends no relief. Captain Courtney is the man who objects loudest to the orders and goes at Brand at every opportunity. Then Brand is promoted and Courtney takes the desk. Now he gives the same orders, and it is he who puts his friends' names on the list. Edmund Goulding directs; a hundred and three minutes, with Errol Flynn as Courtney, Basil Rathbone as Brand and David Niven as Scott. It is a remake of Howard Hawks's film of the same name from 1930, and some of the aerial footage is taken straight from it.
