The Deminer

Fakhir is the father of eight children. He served in the Iraqi army. When order in the country broke down the roads filled with mines. Civilians were being injured by them. Fakhir began to make them safe with his own hands. What he had was a pocketknife and a pair of wire cutters. Over the years he took apart thousands of devices. With every wire he cut the risk was the same. In one explosion he lost a leg. Even so he did not give the work up. After 2014 he worked around Mosul. He recorded what he did on his own camera. The documentary was built from that footage. Fakhir Berwari appears in the eighty three minute documentary, a Swedish production Hogir Hirori finished in 2018.
