What The Devil's Brother Is About
Eighteenth century Italy. Two hopeless would be bandits enter the service of a polished nobleman who is secretly passing himself off as Fra Diavolo, the famous outlaw, and naturally they wreck everything they touch. It is one of Laurel and Hardy's closest engagements with opera: the story comes from Auber's Fra Diavolo of 1830 and the songs are kept. The record credits only Hal Roach; Charles Rogers co-directed. The film also circulates under the titles Fra Diavolo and Bogus Bandits.
