The Diary of Diana B.

During the Second World War, in Nazi occupied Croatia, a woman named Diana Budisavljević sets out to get children out of the Ustasha camps. She begins because she does not hold her own life more precious than the lives of the people being persecuted, and she takes a few friends with her. The dangerous work she carries out ends with more than ten thousand children taken out of the camps. The film does not build this as an epic of heroism; it shows how risky the work was and how much patience it took. How the effort was organised and who came to help are the real material of the account. Diana’s own diary is the starting point of the story and the film takes its name from it. What is told rests on real events. Alma Prica plays Diana, with Igor Samobor, Ermin Bravo and Mirjana Karanović also in the cast. Dana Budisavljević’s eighty eight minute film, a joint production of Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, was completed in 2019.
