Michael Marmot What The Divide Is About
The documentary follows seven people trying to build a better life in America and Britain. By setting those seven stories side by side the film ties them to a single question: how much of daily life is decided by the gap between rich and poor. The account tries to make that connection across many areas, from health to trust, from working hours to relations between neighbours, and speaks with academics working in the field. The film was inspired by a book and argues its case openly; the figures it gives and the chain of cause and effect it builds are the film’s own frame. None of the seven stories is presented as a case study; each is told on its own terms. Katharine Round’s seventy eight minute British documentary was completed in 2015.
