Ferdynand Matysik What The Emergency Exit Is About
A provincial Polish town at the start of the eighties. In the Kolęda family the mother is an energetic community leader, the father a quiet man who keeps ducks and grows flowers at home, and their daughter Dorota is out of work. When the mother learns that her daughter is pregnant she panics; afraid of scandal and of losing her standing, she comes up with an extraordinary solution, to buy Dorota a fiancé with the divorce agreed in advance. Roman Załuski’s comedy looks at what reputation in a small town costs a family, and makes clear that the ridiculous thing here is not the daughter’s situation but the mother’s arithmetic. Bożena Dykiel leads. It was shot in Wrocław and the towns around it.
