The Foxes of Harrow

Stephen Fox is a man come over from Ireland. He makes his living at cards. His road takes him to New Orleans. At the tables of the city he rises quickly. With his winnings he buys land. The plantation he builds runs on slave labour. In a short time he becomes one of the richest in the region. Then he marries. Things do not always go well with his wife. As the fortune grows so does the tension at home. The account follows the family into later years as well. The film was adapted from a novel by Frank Yerby. Rex Harrison and Maureen O’Hara take the leads, with Victor McLaglen also in the cast, in John M. Stahl’s American film of 1947.
