What Back Street Is About
A woman falls in love with a married man and that devotion decides her life. He keeps his marriage, while she accepts living on the unseen side of his life, in the back streets; she is introduced nowhere and has no claim on anything. As the years pass the concessions she makes pile up and nothing built in her own name is left. The film does not present this attachment as a great love story; it shows one by one what the woman loses and asks who is paying for it. It was adapted from a novel. Irene Dunne and John Boles appear in John M. Stahl’s ninety three minute American film, completed in 1932.
