The Gaucho War

The year is 1817 and the place is northern Argentina. The region is the province of Salta. The war of independence is going on. Facing them is the regular army of the Spanish crown. The forces fighting it are not regular troops. Bands formed by the gauchos are doing the fighting. These forces answer to General Martín Güemes. The film tells several stories together. In one raid a lieutenant of the Spanish army is wounded. He is held on the estate of a patriot and treated there. Another part tells of a night raid. The account moves in an epic key. The film is adapted from the book by Leopoldo Lugones. Enrique Muiño and Francisco Petrone appear in the ninety minute film, an Argentine production Lucas Demare finished in 1942.
