The Geisha House

The account is set in Kyoto after the war. The place is a geisha house. A young girl called Omocha comes into the house. Her apprenticeship begins. The training is hard and the rules are strict. Geiko and maiko live in the house together. There is an order of rank among them. Seniority settles everything. Rivalries among the girls are never absent. The house tries to keep up its customs. But outside the country is changing fast. The new age works its way inside as well. Omocha is someone who saw this order from outside. Masahiko Tsugawa and Kaho Minami are in the cast as well. Maki Miyamoto and Sumiko Fuji take the leads, with Mai Kitajima also in the cast, in Kinji Fukasaku’s Japanese film of 1999.
