What The Girl with Nine Wigs Is About
Sophie is twenty-one, about to start university and move into a house full of parties, when she is diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. Treatment takes her hair, so she acquires nine wigs and gives each one a name and a personality. One of them goes dancing until morning; another sits quietly through chemotherapy. Marc Rothemund adapts the memoir of the Dutch writer Sophie van der Stap and refuses to make the illness pitiable, keeping the jokes and the flirting in. Lisa Tomaschewsky plays a young woman who will not be reduced to a patient.
